HOW TO MAKE PLEXIGLASS CLEAN & SANITIZED

advice for properly cleaning plexiglass objects

In order to maintain over time the transparency and brightness of plexiglass objects it is necessary to comply with some simple cleaning precautions.

In particular, it is important to pay attention not to scratch surfaces with careless rubbing or abrasive cloths and sponges. For cleaning and polishing operations it is paramount to:

  1. Making use of a soft cloth. In order to prevent accidental abrasions, it is preferable to use some microfiber, felt or cotton tissues.
  1. In order to avoid the dust, generated by electrostatic charges subsequent to rubbing, from invading again the plexiglass surfaces, one can make use of an antistatic cleaning liquid.

  1. In order to remove halos either a non alcohol-based glass cleaner or a non-acid detergent such as diluted soap.
  1. The use of aggressive products such as glassex, vetril, ammonia, bleach and alcohol is strongly discouraged. All the above substances in fact have chemical additives which can provoke plexiglass yellowing.

  1. In order to prevent surfaces from getting opacified because of dirt, a bodywork polishing liquid can be referred to. The product has to be applied on the plexiglass surface and then removed straight after with a cloth and mild glass cleaner.

If, instead, the opacification is not caused by the dirt, it could be due to the proximity of chemical agents and substances which have compromised the material structure. In this case it will be impossible to take back the plexiglass to its original beauty.

In order to prevent this inconvenience, it is important to avoid to expose the plexiglass surfaces to some range of substances such as: alcohol, acetone, fingernail polish, lysoform, iodine tincture, chlorine, stain removers, cosmetic solvents, campo, inks and lacquers.

  1. In order to eliminate light scratches and halos, an anti-scratch paste can be used. The paste gets rid of surface scratches caused by the typical surface wear. More invasive scratches or damages provoked by sharp objects will not be completely removed but only mitigated.

  1. As far as SANITIZATION is concerned, it is possible to use PROFESSIONAL MULTIPURPOSE PURELL TO DEGREASE AND SANITIZE
